WhatsApp launched a new feature that allows users to leave a group without the knowledge of other members. Meta Boss, Mark Zuckerberg announced that this latest feature has been released along with a number of WhatsApp’s other latest features.
WhatsApp’s new features include; leave groups without notifications, control who can see you online, and block screenshots for single view messages,” Zuckerberg said in his statement, Tuesday (9/8). According to him, the latest feature launched by his company is to protect user privacy and security.
Zuckerberg hopes this feature can provide protection for WhatsApp users. “We’ll continue to build new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as face-to-face conversations,” the Facebook founder said.
The unannounced leave WhatsApp group feature has been announced by parent company Meta since early August 2022. However, this feature will only be rolled out to general users around the end of September 2022.
This feature arrived earlier on Android phones, around September 30 via the WhatsApp application version 2.22.20.79. Meanwhile, iPhone users can enjoy this feature on October 4 via the WhatsApp application version 22.20.75.
How to?
Before trying this latest feature of WhatsApp, make sure you have the latest version of the WhatsApp application, either for iPhone or Android.
If you already have the latest version of the WhatsApp application, you can follow these steps:

- Open a WhatsApp group chat room.
- Then click on the group name at the top of the chat room.
- Once the WhatsApp group profile page opens, scroll down and click the “Leave Group” option.
- After tapping the option, the user will leave the WhatsApp group without a notification appearing in the chat room.
Before this feature was released, when a user left a WhatsApp group, other members would get a notification in the chat room.
With this new feature, notifications will not be displayed to other group members so that users can leave the WhatsApp group without the knowledge of other members.
However, group admins still get notifications when one or more members leave the group. This means that users who leave the group don’t actually leave without anyone noticing.
In addition, the activity history of leaving the group is still visible to other members via the new “View Previous Participants” option. In this option, other members can see which members left and when members left the WhatsApp group.
Furthermore, the “View Previous Participants” option provides information on members who left the group within 60 days, whether they left on their own or were kicked out by an admin. To access this option, users only need to open the group profile page and scroll down until they find the option.
